I have my xbox plugged into my computer by ethernet cable, I'm using my desktop's wifi to connect my xbox 360. It was working last night, but now it keeps telling me IP Address error, and that the router or modem may not be automatically assigning an IP address. Try a static IP address instead.

So you have your xbox plugged into your computer using a standard ethernet (patch) cable? You could try using a crossover cable (usually yellow, not always).

Go through control panel with Xbox plugged in and turned on, and look at the networked devices. Is the Xbox listed?

Honestly, I would recommend disabling your firewall for a few minutes just to test if that is blocking the passthrough.

Well I have an ethernet port plugged directly from my xbox to my ethernet card on my pc. I'm using the wifi I got on my pc and sharing it to my xbox, it worked well for a couple of days. Now its doing this.

Disable your firewall for a few minutes and see if you can connect, firewall may be blocking it. You may have to configure it to let the Xbox through.

Connect it to a modem/router or buy a real wifi adapter

It sounds like you are trying to use the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) feature in Windows. If so, you may need to reestablish the connection. Just restart the ICS service.
