I am looking into builing a home audio system (simple stereo system) but I cannot decide on the speakers. The two I have been looking at are the Monoprice MBS-650 and the Micca MB42, but being new to audio I don't know which is better. The sound I will be compairing it to will be my HD 558 headphones. Do either sound as good as the headphones I have, which will be best for sound quality, and if not these two, what options are better?

Micca MB42 - http://www.amazon.com/Micca-MB42-Bookshelf-Speakers-Tweeter/dp/B009IUIV4A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412124067&sr=8-1&keywords=micca+mb42

What I will be pairing them with: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/NOMLRK76OARB/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go_o?

Thank you

You SHOULD NOT buy speakers without listening to them. Buy them from somewhere local where you can listen to them and 6 others all at the same time. Bring along your own source material, with the minimum amount of processing. Acoustic instruments and vocals.

$30 or $50 per pair speakers will disappoint you in short order. They will deteriorate quickly, the cabinets will fall apart. Save your pennies and wait until you can buy better quality.

It's unrealistic to listen to everything you want to try out. It's not bad to purchase as long as you are able to return them if you don't like them.

I haven't heard anything about the Monoprice's yet, but the Micca's are decent (good for the size and price), though the 42x's are a good step up. However, neither will be as good as your cans, they simply can't go that low.

Given that you are trying to do this on the cheap (looking at your list), if you want to be patient and wait for a good sale, the Pioneer SP-BS22 would be a very good bet. They typically go on sale for around $99/pr and every once in a while (probably every 2-3 months) they will go as low as $65-70/pr at various places.

If you don't mind spending a bit more, at $165/pr + shipping you can get some modded Pioneers BS22's at:

These are very good speakers, better than pretty much anything under $200 and can hold it's own with most stuff under $400.
