I just purchased a 5930k processor from microcenter as a long awaited upgrade from a 955 black edition AMD processor. My last build was 7 years ago. I have a full tower Antec 1200 case along with a 780TI dual classified EVGA. I'm looking for advice on the best cooler for my CPU. I have never used liquid cooling but have seen the corsair h105 rank pretty high in test results (on sale now at newegg for $99. I really dont want to go crazy with custom liquid cooling loops as I have no knowledge regarding them and would fear leakage. I have seen great results with the Noctua NH-D15, the phanteks PH-TC14PE, and also a newcomer Cryorig R1 Ultimate ($89). One of the test showed the Cryorig beating the NH D15 as well as the PH-TC14PE and the corsair H105 with lowest load temps using prime 95. I am planning on getting either the ASUS x99 deluxe or the rampage although they seem quite overpriced currently. I have an SSD I bought (samsung EVO 840 pro) last year that I havent been able to use yet so i'm dying to get this build completed. I want to make sure my cooling solution will do an excellent job if I want to OC to 4.2gHz. The price on the cooling solution is not really an issue, but I will need to make sure any RAM I get will fit without hitting against the cooling solution. Would also appreciate advice on any good ddr4 RAM deals (dont think I will purchase more than 16gb with the prices so high).

So the Cryorig R1 Ultimate, PH-TC14PE, and Noctua-D14/D15 are all pretty equivalent and excellent air coolers but there is none that stands out among the bunch as the best? I have read that the PH-TC14PE sits pretty low so this can limit your RAM choice (if your RAM is tall). The Cryorig R1 Ultimate is designed so that it will not affect RAM choice as much. The Noctua D15 is asthetically displeasing to my eye with their color choices unfortunately.

What about the swifttech H220X or Corsair H105? Is there really any benefit to having a closed loop liquid cooler when compared to the aforementioned top air coolers?

Thanks for your feedback.

Cryorig R1 Ultimate is the one I like the most.

All cool about the same , NOCTUA is the quietest.

Have you had any experience with liquid cooling? I'm most likely leaning towards the Cryorig R1 ultimate or noctua NH-D15 for air cooling, however the open loop cooler from Swifttech 220X looks incredible and cools better than any other air or CLC on the market today with much less noise than the CLC's. And the swifttech would allow higher overclocks and expandability for additional cooling with perhaps an additional radiator or water block for the GPU/mobo.
