I'm plan buying my dream rig in December, will it be a bad thing if i bought a Western Digital from Best Buy early?

No. The bad thing is buying anything computer-related from Best Buy.

Another bad thing is putting this topic in the wrong section ;)

That won't be a problem. I have production servers at work, and when I buy the hard drives for the RAID arrays - I always buy 20% more (example: 20-drives in an array means I need 4-5 extra drives for failure). They often sit on the shelf for 2-3 years before I use the first one....I have had some that I used for desktops after retiring the server (still unopened) and they performed well....5+ years on the shelf.

First - the warranty is 5 years on the WD Black drives (I think the retail drive you have is a 1-3 year), performance will be better on the WD Black drive (it is optimized for performance vs. a standard "retail drive". The drive is on sale for $20 off....making it a really sweet deal. I use this drive as data drives in all my PC's.

That is a a Blue drive which is okay for general use; however, if you intend to game, I would recommend a Black/Performance drive

I just feel you can get better deals from online retailers, especially when it comes to computer hardware.

There are "fan-boys" and "haters" in every group.....ask 100 people about any product or store, and you will get a wide range of results.....

The bad thing about Best Buy in my opinion - they don't have a good variety of product....and some of what they stock (especially PSUs and GPUs) are sub-standard performance wise. I have bought stuff there in a pinch before - but always been better driving 50 miles each way to Fry's vs. anything that Best Buy has for parts....

If you are buying a DVD player, TV, cell phone, a DVD, CD, XBOX, etc....they are a great place to shop.

Okay! Two more questions:

How about if i want to buy an optical drive, is there a place i can get one or better deal online?

My monitor is from 2008 Viewsonic 1440x900 and still works likes it brand new, will that be okay?

I purchase most of my items from NewEgg.com or Amazon.com - but you can find your parts on http://pcpartpicker.com/ - not only do they do a compatibility check on the parts - they show you the best prices online (you can still buy from your favorite store or local store).

For the monitor - give it a shot....if it still works great - keep it in play!
