Need help diagnosing my motherboard

Hey guys, I've been having some issues with my motherboard on a PC that I built about 2-3 years ago. It started about 4 months ago when something bad happened (long story) and water was spilled on the back of my computer, but the water only seemed to have got on my graphics card. I was able to get my computer to boot up one time after that and after many tries. But it never booted up after I shut it down. I assumed it was my graphics card, if not more than that, so I started with that. I bought a new graphics card, and after putting it in, my computer booted up. I thought the problem was solved, but after I shut my computer down for the first time after installing the new gpu, it wouldn't boot up any more. I called ASUS tech support and that's where I found out about trying to remove my battery for about a minute and putting it back in, and to my surprise, it worked. I had tried some things before that, like changing gpu slots, making sure everything was connected properly/securly, and changing RAM slots, and updating my BIOS. There might be a couple other things that I tried.

So right now my computer will only boot up if I remove the motherboard battery for a bit and put it back in. If I try booting it up without removing/putting in the battery all my fans turn on, but I get a "no dvi signal" message on my monitor and it won't boot at all. It's a very frustrating problem and very time consuming having to remove my battery every time I want to turn on my computer. Can anyone help me diagnose this? I feel like it's very likely that there's a failed component somewhere on the MB, but I really wouldn't know since I know very little about motherboards. I'm thinking about just buying a new motherboard and cpu (It's about time for an upgrade), but I don't want to unless I know that's the problem. I just find it strange that my computer did boot up for the first time in a long time when I replaced my old graphics card with the new one I bought, but then wouldn't turn on again unless I remove/put the battery back in.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If there's any more information you need from me, just let me know.

The watch battery on the board is for the CMOS. It's basically keeping the settings the firmware of the motherboard saved for the BIOS, which operates independently from the OS. Removing the CMOS battery and leaving it out, clears the BIOS and returns it back to the factory settings. Not sure how removing the battery remedies the issue with your PC not booting. The no dvi signal means there's no video from your graphics card (that's your monitor's way of telling you) because your system won't go to BIOS, so no boot. It's sounding to me like there's a failed component somewhere. I've seen PC's do strange things after getting wet. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.
