Hello i want to upgrade my system for my b-day but am unsure on what to upgrade first and am curious what would give me the biggest performance boost.
My current specs are:
Fx6300 @ 3.8ghz
Msi 7870 Ghz edition
8gb visiontek black label 1600 mhz ram
Asus M5a97 le ev 2.0 mobo
Antec one 750watt bronze certified psu

Now what my first upgrade path im think of is going with a 4670k with a ASRock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer LGA 1150 and that will come to about 359.99 on newegg.

My second option is going with a newly released gtx 970 4gb card for around 329.99-359.99

So the reason i was thinking of upgrading the cpu first is because i want to play a lot of Arma 3 and Dayz and with my current cpu that really isn't enjoyable/playable. On the other hand going with the gtx 970 would be a overall bigger improvement but i wouldn't be able to lay arma 3/dayz very well.

Please help me. Thanks.

Since you are upgrading incrementally I am going to suggest the 970. Then save money and get a broadwell processor when they come out next year. I say this because the 970 is a great GPU that will easily be usable for quite a few years, most likely. I suggest the broadwell CPU later in the hopes that it will be a nice improvement over haswell and has access to DDR4 which hopefully will be cheaper and will be the standard in the future

You seem to have laid out your options and what you want pretty well. I don't think you really need us to say "You should probably go with the CPU and motherboard" when it's obvious you want to. Word of warning, though: if you're wired, the Killer NICs are positively awful, even in comparison with the Realtek on the M5A97.

DDR4 outside of E/EP processors isn't coming until Skylake, and Broadwell is just a die shrink, so it's unlikely to expect more than 5-10% and OP is already looking at a processor not on the top-end. At the rate things are going, Intel may just skip Broadwell at the desktop level altogether, since they've said they won't hold back Skylake for it.

Well do you guys think the gtx 970 will give a "big" performance boost to ARMA 3 and dayz vs the cpu upgrade?
