4790k is Haswell-R, while 4820k is Ivy-E, an older socket, though there's not much difference in performance (don't compare with synthetic benchmarks). But with 4790k, the components are cheaper (LGA1150, MoBo) compared to 4820k (LGA 2011). Also, 2011 socket is quad channel memory, while 1150 is dual channel. For all gaming purposes, 4690k is more than fine, 4790k if the budget allows, but a very imp advantage of 4820k is that it allows SLI/ CFX at x16/x16, compared to x16/x8 in Haswell E, but that hardly makes a difference as current high end GPUs are simply fast enough to utilize the extra bandwidth.
