Currently own a GTX 690 and feel for an upgrade.. Money is not an issue.

Should I go for 2x GTX 980's?

The GTX 690 is still quite a strong card today, but certainly won't match two GTX 980's in SLI.

What resolution do you game at? Is there any reason for the upgrade? (or just for fun?)

Hehe, I will buy the Asus Swift monitor with 144Hz and 1440p.
So 2560x1440 will I play with.

I see, well you certainly have money to burn and would want an upgrade.

I would actually just go two GTX 970's that is far better value as there is no need to waste twice as much money on the 980's for a relatively small difference.

Well that's true.
Do you think they will release a GTX 980 Ti?

when AMD release their R9 390X possibly. The main reason for the launch of the GTX 780Ti was because of the R9 290X. Nvidia needed to release something that was considered better then AMD, as the launch of the R9 290 series was a bad day for Nvidia.

hehe, well atleast Nvidias cards doesn't exceed 93 degrees celsius when gaming for 5 minutes and sound like a jet engine. Which works as a leaf blower too.
I might get a 980 Ti if it come. It looks like the 390x is powerful. over 4200 cores and 512-bit 7Ghz GDDR5 memory.

that's not entirely true, that is their terrible stock cooler, with one tiny fan that spins at an outrageous speed, with a few enclosed heatpipes.

the specs of the R9 390X are rumors, I have seen the 448Gb/s bandwidth from leaks and it does sound crazy, though I can never rely on those sources. I am waiting for the R9 295X2 to go on a price cut and then grab one of those and tri-fire with my R9 290X.

1 R9 290X and 1 R9 295X2 to triple Xfire. I will also OC the core clock of the R9 295X2 to 1040 to match the R9 290X, then do a custom loop to the 290X.

Oh, nice!

Don't you need a PSU with over 1000W for that?

yep, selling my 900W antec PSU and getting a corsair AX1200i. I'm excited to what that monster can do at 4k, as currently I am running a 4k screen on my R9 290X, and it doesn't cope with AA very well.

Wouldn't it be better to wait for the r9 3## series in your case?
