I have this old monitor(lenovo thinkvision L194) and i decided to connect it to my laptop. When you turn it on it will display properly for about 2 seconds then goes black. It doesn't display anything anymore after that except when I tried to change it's resolution, it'll display correctly for 2 seconds again then goes black. It's just black, I can't even access the monitor menus.

do these monitors do the same thing if you connect them up to a DVD player and attempt to play a movie?

sounds like an issue with either the OS settings or the monitor itself. To rule out OS, could you try Mac Laptop/desktop or some other form of media device?
