I have two HP Gigabit switches, both will communicate using cat 5 Cross over cable but do not communicate on cat 6 cross over. Any idea on this? Thanks in advance.

You should be using straight cable with any gig connection. Gigabit does not support the concept of crossover. It actually transmits and received on all 4 pair from both sides at the same time using echo cancelers to make this magic work.

I would suspect either the cat6 cable is defective or the switches are being confused by the crossover cable if it is not made correctly.

Thanks for you reply Bill,
Sorry for not mentioning that both switches have web based configuration( HP 1910-24g and 1810-8g).The 24-g switch has console port too. i tried to trunk the ports but no success. the same cable when i connect to unmanaged switch and then connect to the 24-g switch, it would work. And when i connect the same switches through cat 5 cable it works. appreciate you help
