Underclocking seems to stop the artifacting problem on my Asus 280x, was just wondering if i could cause any damage to my card by underclocking it?

Original GPU clock speed was 1070 ive taken it down to 970

Original memory clock speed was 1600 ive taken it down to 1500

Nope, not at all. The GPU will constantly "underclock" itself whenever it's not at full load anyway, so all you're doing is lowering the maximum clock speeds it can ramp up to under load.

Some people elect to undervolt so safe power and reduce heat/noise. This can result in freezes and lock-ups, but shouldn't damage the GPU.
