My build has a great processor and graphics card but only 8GB of RAM, should I compromise one of my best parts so I can get a boost in RAM capacity? Or maybe somewhere else?

Thanks in advanced :)

8GB is fine for gaming and multitasking, you'd be looking for 'future proofing' or doing CPU intensive rendering or editing at pro level with 16GB memory.

Make sure you have an SSD and if you are going to spend extra $$ make sure it is a 256GB version. Long term, you will see benefits in more areas with a quality SSD than you will with more RAM.

As usual, you answer my rather rookie question. Thanks. :)

I've posted the current parts to my build in the first post in the hyperlinked word 'build'.

I wouldn't recommend the two 120GB SSDs (assuming you are expecting to RAID 0), I would go with the 256GB 850 PRO for performance and simplicity.

Everything looks good to me, MoBo, PSU, case, they're all great choices. Glad to help :)

I was thinking a RAID 1 (mirror), just as a back-up thing. I'm gonna fill it up pretty quickly with game downloads and if it dies for whatever reason, I have a backup.

I would definitely not recommend RAID 1 to give you security. You would be MUCH safer to have a data drive 1 - 2 TB which you could save an image of the boot disk and multiple backups of critical files. Assuming that you use automated backups for your critical files (mail, contacts, quicken, etc), you could restore the image file from the data drive with a boot CD/USB and then get the most recent copy of your critical files. Download all the online content and you are good to go.

I have a 2TB external I could copy everything from the SSD to. I was going to put my OS and games on the SSD and have everything on the HDD. So I should copy the stuff on the SSD to the external and forget the 2nd SSD and RAID?

That is my recommendation. Backups protect from more than hardware failure (virus, human error, firmware bug, ...)
