So I want to get a new WiFi router but I was wondering do I have to call my internet provider and ask then to give me a DSL modem that has no built in WiFi ? The modem that was provide by my internet provider is a DSL modem with built in wifi and it sucks like shit so I was wondering do I have to get a modem with out WiFi bult in it in order for the router to work properly. If I hock the WiFi router in the DSL router with the built in WiFi won't it slow down the speed of the WiFi router?
What I want to do: DSl Modem with built in wifi -> WiFi router bual band -> then computer.

Yes. Return yours and get a modem. Then add whatever wifi router you like. In the long run you will save money because you wont be leasing the router.

I agree with the previous poster. THe combo units are junk, usually. You want to have a separate DSL modem and then hook it into the "internet" port on a separate wi-fi router. You won't experience any issue with the speed between the router and the modem. not to mention DSL modems seem to die easily, and it's cheaper to replace the modem than a whole combo unit.

^Yeah I replace bad dsl modems all the time as well as cable modems. They run hot and are usually in some dusty corner somewhere.
