My graphics card seems to lose its driver every few days. When this happens my USB mouse also usually freezes up. Rebooting does not fix the graphics problem but the mouse works then.

I have a GeForce 8800 GTS card with driver 9.18.13.2723. 3D enabled, driving dual monitors.

Other specs: Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit version 6.1 build 7601:Service pack 1 recently installed. Alienware motherboard. 4GB Ram. Intel Core2 CPU X6800 2.93 GHz 1 TB SATA HD recently replaced. 550 Watt Power supply. No overclocking that I am aware of.

Everything seems to work fine, but every few days, maybe a week, the dual monitor fails, and vertical blue stripes appear on my screen, 4 sets of about 6 narrow stripes. These are more apparent when re-booting during BIOS when I have a black background. I have a dual OS with Windows XP and when it crashes it seems to affect both OS's. I had a recent hard drive failure and had to replace the HD and purchase a new copy of Windows 7 since Microsoft claimed my CD key was not valid and had been blocked by the vendor who set up my computer several years ago (weird??). The graphics problem had never occurred before the crash.

Sometimes booting to the Last Known Good Configuration will fix it, usually restoring windows to an earlier point will fix it, or I can delete the driver and other NVIDIA programs and run Driver Sweeper, then re-install the driver to fix it. I have also tried the latest version of NVIDIA driver which does the same thing.

I am not sure if I have a virus, a bad version of Windows, a defective graphics card, or some other problem.

I use Norton Antivirus and it finds no problems. I also have run Malware Bytes Anti-malware which normally finds nothing wrong. I also run SpyBot to clean the spyware frequently, and it usually finds a few items to remove.
