few days back my pc time and date was not right when i shut it down and open it again even if i set it,so i had to manually adjust it every time i open my pc which was not that bad, after few days i got cmos battery failure before windows start up but eventually my pc starts after 10 to 30 minute and no i am not exaggerating i can't move the mouse until it completely load which take 30 min but after that my pc run normally but the items at the notification area are invisible, i searched the internet and found out that a dead cmos battery might have caused all this.
i was going to replace it but I opened my comp now and it told me "Disk Read error press ctrl + alt + del to restart" and i can't start the computer
please tell me that a died cmos battery might cause such an error. I got very important stuff on my hard drive

window 7 64 bit
geforce 210 1giga
Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200 2.50ghz
ram 4gb
prg3110h motherboard

hard drive is pretty old but never showed any signs of failing

a dead cmos cannot cause such severe problem the most it woulld do is make you have to set your time everytime you boot up or if you made a specific setting in the bios you would constantly have to be doing it at boot up ..

you should now check to see if there other problenms that developed because of other problems.. it could be the motherbioard ,a bad drive or overheating of some kind .. first thing i suggest is try booting without the drives by booting from an live cd like linux and see how fast it boots if the boot process takes a long period then it is not the drives that was causing the problem.. secondly get a hardware monitoring tool like everest or hw monitor and check for any abnormal temperatures from anty hardware within the system ...if you see any hardware with spiking temperatures then that would be the cause of the problem .. third if you by any chance have a friend with a motherboard like your you could try all your parts togethr in that system to determine if the problem is your motherboard ..hope i helped
