is there a way to use 2 or 3 monitors on 2 pcs so that the monitors are recognized without using the monitors built in av modes?
Having multiple switches or what is known as a matrix switcher. They are not cheap. If you ONLY wanted two monitors shared by two PCs, you could get 4x2 Switcher. You would run two cables to the inputs from each computer and cables to each of the two monitors. You would then use the remote to select the inputs and outputs from the switch.
If you use a splitter, only one of the monitors will be identified in your OS (it will be up to the splitter to determine which one). A splitter is sending the same signal to all the monitors. You see the same thing on all of them.
