I would get the TP link. They are similar in capabilities, but the TP Link is supported by DD-WRT alternate firmware. If there are features lacking in the factory firmware, you can try alternate firmware.

A router is just a specialized computer. Just like your desktop your can run Windows(7, or 8.0 or 8.1), or Linux (many versions) and you choose the software based on what you want to do. DD-WRT is a set of software that can be loaded onto hundreds of different routers. This software has more features and more controls than does the firmware (software) that the hardware vendor supplies.

Lets create an example --
You want to create a wireless network that is different than the one all YOUR stuff is hooked to so that your friends can have internet access but not have access to your stuff. This is called a "guest network". You check all the configuration pages and search the web and your router doesn't support that with the default firmware. BUT with alternate firmware you CAN create a guest network -- DD-WRT instructions .

I would stick with the TP-Link. They are a better known brand name. Having a brand name that others recognize will help in the long run because the online community can help you with problems. If you get too obscure, you will get limited help because nobody else bought that brand.
