I am having a very annoying problem lately ! I have a wireless router , a desktop and a laptop and a phone . if I use only the laptop on wireless it works pretty good but if I start my desktop the hell breaks loose . When I start the Pc the laptop (and my phone) disconnect from wireless and the SSID completely dissapears . After some time it gets back but when I try to connect it sais :"Windows was unable to connect to (my router name)". I tried connecting the laptop to the router trough an enthernet cable but it keeps saying : "Network cable unplugged" even if it is plugged (tried with 2 cables to be sure , both work on desktop but none on laptop) .

So my laptop doesn't connect to my router either by cable or wireless while my desktop conects very well trough cable . I tried making a personal hotspot with my phone and the laptop connects to it with no problem .

Conclusion : Laptop can connect to wireless but not from my own router
Laptop can not be connected by cable to router
Desktop can be connected by cable to router
Wireless seems to break when i start desktop

Also I checked device manager and i have : 2x base system device and Ethernet controller with yellow exclamation marks !
I hope you understood my poor english and I hope you know how to fix my problem .Please help !

1. Reset router back to factory defaults and the reconfigure, default username/password normally on the bottom.

2. PC with multiple ethernet controllers, delete them all, delete the driver and remove from Windows, reboot and reinstall the driver, when hardware detected.

Do both the desktop and laptop use DHCP for the configuration? If not, you could have a duplicate IP address. Could you have cloned the MAC address from one device onto the other? Does the log on the router show anything?

We need to know what router you have to get it to working, but that may be an indication that the router is on its last legs...

The device manager exclamation points should be corrected. That is saying that there is no device driver (or a problem installing a driver) for that hardware. That could be part of your problems also.

I tried everything and it keeps doing the same problems ... now it works but i don't think it will last long . I will call my internet provider and tell them my router is broken . Maybe a new one will work . Thanks for the help !
