We discussed this internally and the fan issue (fan2 @100%) is most likely caused by the sticker.
Many fans can withstand the removal of the sticker without any damage but a small amount of fans seem to get damaged.
Our production has already stopped using these stickers.

So we recommend all users that suffer from this issue to return the card to the point of purchase for warranty service.

This comes directly of msi

It can't be fixed by a firmware update of any kind?

Also I was wondering what happened to the MSI SLI Krait Edition? It's on the website but isn't available at any resellers or retailers.

Am I the only one around here which don`t have any problem with my MSI GTX 970? Or not yet.

Yes, I agree that the sticker is very sticky that might damage the fan if not properly remove. By the way, why MSI does not include SLI cable? or does it need SLI cable to enable SLI config in GTX 970?

When I removed the sticker, I pushed down on the fan, not too hard. Just enough so I didn't move it... We'll see if it was a success.

To see if I have any coil whine, is there something I can run? Specific benchmark, or just any game?

No you are not the only 1 that has no problem, like a say before many times, people that have a crappy card wright alot about it, people with good cards don,t, i,m sure that there are more people with good cards then there are people that don,t.
No you mention indeed no sli cable

I just installed my MSI GTX 970. So far so good. No unexpected noise... just fan, no coil whine.

I just spent an hour gaming and checking out FPS vs my 7970 (OC @ 1175mhz core, 1550mhz memory).
I OC my 970 to +170 core and +500 memory in Afterburner.

Just some of what I've found so far with all maximum settings @ 1080p.
Game - GPU - FPS
Tomb Raider - 7970 - 32fps
Tomb Raider - 970 - 45fps
Watch Dogs - 7970 - 27fps
Watch Dogs - 970 - 50fps
Far Cry 3 - 7970 - 32fps
Far Cry 3 - 970 - 90fps (huge jump in same location)
Crysis 3 - 7970 - 23fps (rain first level)
Crysis 3 - 970 - 35fps (rain first level)
Shadow of Mordor - 7970 - 45fps
Shadow of Mordor - 970 - 66fps
The Witcher 2 - 7970 - 43fps
The Witcher 2 - 970 - 58fps

Excellent so far.

First of all, good to here you also have no problems.

HWMonitor?

Just realized AB would monitor CPU usage...
Looks like during gaming it never goes over 40% usage.

GPU does drop here and there... I'm not sure why. GPU temps are all good.

I tried it again w/o any OC. Same type of GPU usage. hit 99 % then drops lower.

I am playing Tomb Raider... there are a lot of cut scene type events. I think they LOD is way higher during those scenes. During standard gameplay FPS may go from 30fps to 45fps.

This is using 4x MSAA (ultra). My 7970 OC was around the same performance on 4x MSAA (normal)

I'm not really sure if things are working as I thought. No noise, but FPS seem to jump all around.

Watch Dogs seems horrible once out in the world... Constant stutter, even with no AO or low AA.

You don`t have a stable OC. Mem clock of +500 is way to high.
Post your result in Unengine Valley Benchmark.

I OC`ed mine to core clock +150 and mem clock +200 this is the sweet spot I think.

I sorted it out. Same oc but deleted the profile for the game. When it recreated it noe it is running much better.

Crashed after 30 min so I'll decrease it and try again.

i play bf 3 and bf 4, middle earth schadow of mordor, and wolfenstein, on +140 core and +200, like legend sad, thats a bit of the sweet spot.

Any way good luck

Oh, I just recently saw the max clock from HARCOPC:

core clock = +170~180
mem clock = +500

But I think this will stress our GPU to much.

i have no problem benching with that core clock.
with +175 and + 500 i do firestrike, 3d 11 and 3d mark vantage, just for gaming i put it a little lower.

I even manage to bump up +180 yesterday for benching, but yes I can see frame drops and not solid gameplay :(

By the way, can you teach me how to post a screenshot here?

For me all games work fine with my 2 MSI cards (SLI)...what always ends up making a low pitched "ticking" noise is 3DMark Firestrike. It sounds like crickets during the GPU tests in FireStrike. I'm starting to wonder if I pulled those stickers off too hard and that's what is creating my ticking noise...but I ordered 2 new MSI cards from Newegg today so I will be very careful pulling that off this time around.

o + 180 i can do also, but the +175 and +500 give,s me a better score but vallye would crash with that overclock.
Just upload your image to lets say photo bucket, then copy paste the link in the typing field.

Oh no the two new MSI cards are hopefully to see if my current two were defective due to the "crickets" noise...if the new ones don't do that during Firestrike then I'm returning the original two. I have Newegg Premier...free returns and no restocking fees...plus I'll claim a defect. Although maybe it was just pulling the fan sticker off and there's no defect.

But yeah I also purchased 2 Gigabyte cards because they came in stock...I want to see how they'll fit in my case and maybe if I should roll with those instead? At any rate I'm only keeping 2 and returning the rest lol.

The only issue I have with a +200 and + 500 OC is Watch Dogs.

I'll lower it a bit more and test.

The Witcher 2 @ 60FPS was pretty sweet. No artifacts or crashes...

So what's the safest overclock for the msi card? As I should be getting it tomorrow. Which I suspect it will be from the first batch of the cards(the ones with sticker) there also may be a workaround with the fan issue, the workaround is manually setting the fans to spin at 100% for an hour + and this should work the bearings in and lube them up and what not then set back to auto then everything "should" work as it should. But a few users from the following link I'll give have had it succeed. Keep checking the following forum for more updates. https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=183618.0

there is no safest overclock for any card, you have to check what your card will do.
every card is different, i use 1254mhz core, and 1903mhz for the memory 24/7

Well let's not say safest but stable instead without artifacts. I have already read that in the mid 1500mhz for the msi 970 is the most stable highest clock you can get but I might down it to 1450ish to be on the safe side. What type of card are you running that can achieve 1900mhz?

i,m running with the msi gtx 970 gaming, i can bench with 2003mhz for the memory like you can see in my posts above.
but for gaming i drop it to 1900mhz

1900 aye? That's promising Cos I have the exact same card coming tomorrow I'll be seeing if I can hit close to that score too, nice score too. I'd love to see a screenshot of mail after burner and your current overlook for both core and members, if you can? Thanks

Your 7970 clock speed is higher than my R9 280x and I hear that they're very similar compared to performance.

On a single card on Tomb Raider set on High, I was getting about 75 FPS and about 120+ on crossfire.

For Watch Dogs set on High, I was averaging about 59 on a single GPU and about 45 on crossfire [just shows how bad this game was programmed.]

On Witcher 2, my game stays on like 70's with one card and goes over 100FPS with 2 cards.

I don't know how you're benchmarking these games man.
