Hello All,

I have a GPU that is IMO overheating reason is it usually ran idle at 30-34c and would go up to 45-56c in games like Arma2/3,Dayz,BF4. Now it has only happened since I have upgraded my CPU and MOBO and from reading am thinking it could be two reasons OC cpu and the PSU it will sit idle at 34-40 and once I start a game ei Arma 3 it will steadily rise to 60c within seconds and then shut down at around 70c .. Here are my specs on my mid ranged rig ;p

Windows 7 64 home
CPU - AMD FX 6300 3.5ghz OC to 4.3 ghz ( Temp stays in game at 34-45c)
MOBO - MSI 970 GAMING
Kingston 8gb Fury Black HX318C10FBK2/8
PSU OCZ600SXS (OLD ;s) http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341031

Thanks for any information first time builder.

Solution
the max temp on a gtx 770 is 98*c before it will start to throttle the gpu to keep the heat down.

Try downloading MSI Afterburn and set a custom fan profile to speed the fans up as the temp rises. Also it is recommended to have 600w PSU for stock usage, with an overclocked CPU you may be pushing the limits of the PSU and the PSU is shutting its self off.

Take your overclock off of your cpu. Those temps shouldnt be shutting down your GPU unless you have it set that way in the settings. My GPUS run around 80c. Put your CPU back to what its speed is out of the box. Should fix your issue. Just restore system defaults in your BIOS.

Thanks I will try that with fan speeds and I was not aware of the max temps, Also I think I might just pick up a new PSU also as this one has been around for about 5 years ;/ might grab a 850 -1000 gold as I want to SLI in the future.

Thank you for the reply, I used the OC genie that came with the MOBO and boosted it to 4.2ghz and everything ran stable for about a week temps etc . yesterday I thought I would like to be at 4.3ghz and that's when the issues happened. I was wanting to keep the cpu at 4.3ghz and not go higher as I read most where able to do this and even go a little higher which I don't as 4.3 works for me., but I guess if that's the or one of the problem's also I will lower the OC or even default it back again.

Well the best way to OC your CPU is through the BIOS. With lots of testing at which power consumption works for it. Testing watts and what not. Takes alot of time. Usually you can get away with just moving your clock rate along with an increase in power and have it work. i would restore to default and run your system and see if it runs fine. After that i would carefully start overclocking when your system is stable.

Thank you for the info! I am thinking that is also the reason my GPU is overheating OC cpu and not the greatest PSU as for the OC genie it is all done in the BIOS its not done on the desktop like AMD overdrive. But at 4.2ghz oc from the BIOS system runs fine temps etc no crashing did the "stress test" and am not messing around with the volts till I totally understand OC I have been doing baby steps in that department so far I just used the multiplier in the BIOS. Like I said if I can get to 4.3ghz I would be totally happy with that.
