limited connectivity 8.1

I have the same limited connectivity on only one of the laptops in the house but my adapters are Qualcomm Atheros... help? ?

What model is your laptop?

I've had this same problem when upgrading (or should I say "upgrading") to Win8.1 from 7. The fix was installing an older driver as the installed Microsoft driver wasn't happy with 8.1, apparently. If you can find alternative drivers, try those first.
