MSI R9 280X, Not displaying properly

I'm running
I5 4690k
asus z87 deluxe
msi r9 280

And i am pretty sure i have all drivers correct and things pluged in
but every time i plug the hdmi cable into my gpu i get a blue screen with green lines, and when i plug it into the vga i get a red screen. But everything is fine when i plug it into the mobo, so do you think this could be a faulty card or a fault pci e slot? or i just didn't install something right? cause when i plug it into the the gpu it self and boot up the pc the asus logo and windows logo shows up fine, and when it hits the login page everything messes up.

Remove the card and and plug it back in. Make sure it plugs in tight. Make sure you have the extra 6/8 pin power plugged in.

If it works fine from the motherboard (on board) then you can rule out the monitor and the cables being used.

If you're using a different cable, swap the cable for another.

When the system is performing its POST operation, the colors are good, right?

If it looks good on POST but looks bad on Windows, it is a software setting.

Something else to check. If you Overclock your card on Windows boot maybe it is too high? Check the program you use to OC, make sure it isn't applying the OC at boot. Check the voltage too.

Hi first of all thanks for replying! and I've tried removing the card and plugging it back in multiple times
my 6 and 8 pin power are both plugged in and the fans on the gpu is working
And how POST colors are correct, and I am not over clocking! so does that mean my software is wrong?
Also how do I check if voltage is correct?

If you didn't change the voltage it should be correct. You can see it in GPU-Z if I remember correctly.

If the BIOS and POST are both good, my guess would be that something in Windows is causing the color problem. Bad driver or something?

If you have an old hard drive or something, install a fresh copy of Windows on it in your computer. Check if the same thing happens.

This is a new built and the harddrive is brandnew windows open up perfectly without the bad screen with the integrated graphics card on the mobo, and the driver i believe is update but it seems a bit glitched cause i've been trying to update my catalyst to 14.9 but it seems to show i still have 14.4

How about removing the drivers completely?

Run the AMD Cleanup Utility from Safe Mode.

Let the drivers completely remove and reboot. On reboot, don't install the drivers. Is it still green/blue screen?
If not- so far so good.
If so- bad GPU or bad cable.

ALRIGHT!!!! SO I'VE DONE WHAT YOU SAID! GOOOD NEWSSS VERY GOOD NEWS, the gpu is now displaying normal images but which driver do i install now ?

so I have tried both the 14.4 amd driver and the 14.9 amd drive, no luck with both they both end up as before with the broken screen.

Go back one version. The last good one you used.

You can try the latest since now you know how to completely remove it. If that doesn't work try another version.

Hi I've tried all version available on their site offered for the r9 280x which are the 14.9(newest), 14.4,13.12,13.9 which all gives me the artifacts on my screen, could this be because the gpu is faulty? or still just software?

I'm not sure... Last thing would be to try it in another PC. If it still fails replace it.
