So I think I am ready to pull the trigger on a custom water loop but I am hoping to get some input from experienced users.

I currently have the XFX Double dissipation 7970 non-reference graphics card.
PCB number: VPEAC3861PS8
Product code: FX-797A-TDFC

From what I can tell heatkiller makes a compatible water block: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/20018/ex-blc-1455/Hea...

I am curious if any one has experience with this water block and if all else fails does any one have experience with a universal water block and using small heatsinks to cool the other components of the graphics card.

Thank you.

I have experience with attaching copper heatsinks to the VRAM modules of the Graphics Card. Many copper heatsinks come with adhesive pre-applied but if not you can purchase Arctic Cool Thermal Adhesive. Just be sure to only apply a very small amount and use the provided plastic trowel to remove any excess before applying the heatsink to the VRAM module.

You could try the NZXT Kraken X-41 or X-61 along with a Kraken G-10 to water cool the Graphics Card. It's not exactly cheap but is reusable on all GPUs including Nvidia's latest 900 Series. Keep in mind, if you go this route, make sure to get the shortest (in height) heatsinks you can find, as some parts of the G10 won't accommodate the taller variety of heatsink.

These would be perfect: http://www.amazon.com/Cosmos-Copper-Cooling-Heatsinks-c...

Thank you for the link, I looked at the G10 but I knew going that route I would need to use the extra heat sinks and so that got me interested in a custom loop to avoid that. I think if I go that route I will use a universal block so that I can start with a loop on just the GPU and move on to combining the CPU later (right now I have the H110 so no rush).

I'm just concerned about needing a fan pointed directly at the GPU sort of how the G10 does, my case has plenty of fans so I'm curious if that will be enough or not. I have reached out to frozen cpu to see what their return policy on the full block is, I would really like to go with a custom loop and get away from multiple AIO.

Also, how hard is it to cut those copper pieces into a new size? Or should I avoid that altogether? I see the aluminum ones a lot and they seem to have different sizes because their are some VRMs that are quite small that I would like to place a heat sink on. It would be nice if I could find a variety pack.

As long as the heatsink is greater than the correct size for the VRAM module there shouldn't be a need to alter their size / shape.

I'm running a Kraken G-10 + X-41 on my GTX 780. Using 12 Copper Heatsinks on the VRAM.

No problems so far. Temperatures reduced from ~75°c to ~45°c at maximum load.

As for custom waterblock setups, you'll need someone else to give you advice on those.
