Here is my current build:
[MOBO] Intel DX58SO
[RAM] DDR3 6GB
[CPU] Intel i7-925ee 3.2ghz
[GPU] 760 GTX 2GB
[PSU] Corsair TX650w

I have not updated anything but the video card last year, since the initial build years ago. I had someone gently overclock CPU and Memory but very slightly when it was first made.

To my surprise, this PC actually runs newer games just fine but I find myself wanting more and just being prepared for future. I play on 1080p with mainly high settings on games such as Watch Dogs, Skyrim(140+ mods), Tomb Raider, AC4, and Metro -to name a few, and of course I don't use AA where I don't have to. Seriously, I am surprised how well my rig handles most of these things!

So, here are a few questions for any/all experts out there, please, if you will:
1. Currently, because it's older generation, is my CPU holding me back with how things are setup? I can't tell.

2. If you would recommend update(s), which should I deal with first?

3. A 760 SLI seems to have better performance than a reference 970 so in the end is that a better option? I cannot decide, I have done research around here and elsewhere and it seems like going SLI would mean upgrading my PSU for sure but then 970 would probably be a better choice for the money because I won't need that upgrade, especially if I need to upgrade anything else beforehand.

If this is too much, please just pick and choose one or two to help with, it is greatly appreciated.

I've never heard of a [CPU] Intel i7-625ee 3.2ghz. The i7-965 is fair performer.

CPU Benchmarks
Intel Core i7 965 @ 3.20GHz

Intel has new models that use DDR4 memory

Intel Core i7-5820K - $400
ASUS X99-A motherboard - $275
G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400 (PC4-19200) Desktop Memory Model F4-2400C15Q-16GRR - $260

-> Oh, that was a typo on my end. That is the one I have!
Thank you for the suggestions. I will look at these one. I haven't really looked at all for myself yet but I was curious to see what people would recommend for future-proofing. I don't know even when I'll be able to do all this. Eventually, I want to just build a new PC and do whatever with this one so I could use any ideas for that as well. Again, your input is appreciated.

My motherboard is built for tri-channel memory, well 3 blues and a black, I believe that means it will work with four but primarily 3? However, I like the memory modules you selected. I wonder if they would work, RAM is one thing I think needs to get a boost if anything. That or Vram.
