This is the first time a full catalyst install package has worked for me and remained stable. Previous attempts of older packages have all result in a black screen lockup requiring hard reboot and me thinking i was having PSU issues. My card is XFX R9 280X

Stability previously only possible with 14.4 driver only downloaded from GURU. I have not tinkered around with the catalyst center itself as my monitor is already set the way i like it now due to being unable to access it previously. No longer any temp issues, artifacting(it was always minimal before) or the very patience testing black screen lockups. This package has a big +1 from me personally.

Solution
It is a -1 from me. I am running a XFX HD 7970, the same GPU chip as you, and I have found that while overclocked the VRam frequency will drop from 1675 MHz down to stock 1375 MHz while using 14.4 and 14.9. This does not happen with 13.9 or newer drivers. This happens just by scrolling through facebook. This causes my second monitor to flicker because of the change even at times causing my main monitor to go corrupt so I can not see what is on the screen.

For them to take 5 months to get a new driver WHQL certified and this be an issue is bad business IMO.

Oh yes for sure i agree, drivers are killing good business word of mouth from the gamer end. Not many gamers i chill with are picking amd over nvidia for gaming, just because of the driver issues. I went against the grain for a change and went amd. Until installing this new package yesterday really regretted it. I see some folks are still having issues on the forum board though, so there is some kinks to work out still. But for my issues i was having, just a heads up to the driver developers here that whatever they did fixed it.
