I have a i5 4570 but for some reason after playing a game for about 2 to 2 1/2 hours I get decreased frames per second and CPU temps of 65 degrees Celsius max while playing either Borderlands 2 or Battlefield 4. I need to know if I need a better CPU heatsink and cooler since I'm using the "stock" Intel heatsink and cooler that comes with the CPU itself and also I need to know if the that temperture range is acceptable or if it's a bit high for a CPU of this model. I'm thinking that it's a bit high considering that it's causing my frames to drop and gain at a rapid pace of motion.

I recommend a 120mm tower cooler other than the frequently-parroted Hyper 212 EVO. That one isn't a bad cooler, but is overpriced compared to competitors (sometimes its own Hyper212 Plus). The small differences in performance (1C-3C) are not worth what may be 30%-40% differences in price. Competitors include Enermax, NZXT, Rosewill, Gammax, and even Logisys, such as this one for $22: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... .

Looks okay to me. Are you sure there is nothing running in the background? That would be my first guess.-

Best solution
From what you say, sounds like by manually setting the fan to max, you solved the problem. The fan curve in bios probably didn't hit max speed until cpu reaches 70° but there's no saying what the curve actually is. Your temp of 65° may have put you at only 50-60% fan speeds. Bios doesn't really care what the temp is, as long as it's under 70°. Using a software based, controlable fan curve like Asus Suite fan Xpert2 or speedfan will give much better results than bios, and being user controlable fan curves, you could set the fans to max out at 50° and run a sharp curve from 35° to 49° etc. Doubtful you'll ever see 65° again with a higher TDP rated cooler and a decent fan curve, on all the fans, not just cpu
