Is there any chance since they are both gigabyte boards I can move a RAID 5 (3 drive) configuration?

RAID was made from BIOS

If this is a bootable raid then Nope
x58 is intel raid and 990fx is AMD raid.

If this is purely a data raid then you can backup the files. Move the drives and create the new raid5 and then restore the files to it.

can I get a hardware controller and move the raid to that before moving the drives to the new MB?

You're in the same boat.
The hardware raid controller cant read the intel raid either. Creating a new raid 5 on that will also wipe the drives and all the data on them.

Nw that I think about it, Casper 8 claims to be able to do this, just I have not had success with it though others claim they have.
