Hey guys,

I'm going to be using this computer for general daily use (school, Skype, work) and a little light gaming (CS and CoD for example), and this is the first time I ever build a computer.. What do you guys think? Do you see any newbie mistakes? Any feedback?

Thanks

I'd recommend a Z97 motherboard to go with that 4690K, because a Z87 board won't support the 4690K from the first BIOS version. The board may ship with the right BIOS version, or it may not, in which case you'd have to update it which usually impossible to do without a supported CPU.

Also, for $25 more you can get a GTX 970.

The PSU is overkill unless you plan on SLI'ing somewhere down the road.

Try this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($225.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($139.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($81.99 @ NCIX...

I changed to motherboard to its Z97 equivalent, changed the GPU to a 970 and kept you in budget by changing the PSU. This PSU is still excellent.

I just noticed that :p

You may also want to get a simple CPU cooler to quiet down your system. It's also absolutely required for overclocking. The go to entry-level cooler is the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo. Just $25-30.
