Will a seasonic 550w psu be able to power a gigabyte gtx 970 g1 gaming edition gpu at max load as well as the rest of the system?

Yes, easily. (although you might want a 650w if you think you might SLI later)

It'll all work just fine, although I'm a bit apprehensive if you'd try to do 2-way SLI. Maxwell on the 970 is power efficient, but the Gigabyte G1 Gaming Editions of the 970/980 consume alot more power than the average 970/980, especially against reference cards too. But if you don't plan to SLI and just stick with one card, you're gold! Nothing to worry about!
