Should and can I overclock my laptop

I have an Alienware 17 Intel i7-4710 mq cup@2.50GHz 16GB ram, I play dayz but have to play on lower setting or It won't run smoothly as I would like. R there cons to overclocking? Is it a big risk to overclock? Thanks for ur help in advance.

There is a few cons when overclocking a laptop, overclocking adds much more heat to your system and in a large desktop tower. It's fine as air is frequently blowed in and out of the system, but in a laptop it is compacted and accumulates much more heat.

Not to mention if you have it on your lap while gaming the temps will go even higher. You don't have as much control on fans and other things to manage extra temps. I would avoid overclocking a laptop.
It'll get too hot and drain even more battery life, your overclocking wouldn't be a huge overclock either and wouldn't be worth the extra 1-3fps that you'll gain with a small overclock.
