Just purchased and installed the MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 OC 2GB on my gaming desktop. Now my computer powers off after a minute or 2. It will power back on again, but will only stay on for like 30 seconds then. If I give it a while and repeat it I will get the same results, 1-2 mins the first time, 30 seconds the next. I think it might be my PSU. The 760 requires a minimum 500w and that is what I have. Here are the specs on my rig:

CPU : Intel Core i7 930 Quad-Core 2.8Ghz Motherboard : MSI X58M, 6 USB, 1 SATA
Memory : 8GB DDR3 G.SKILL Ripjaws Series
Video Card : MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 OC 2GB GDDR5 2DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort PCI-Express Video Card N760 TF 2GD5/OC

Hard Drive : 500GB 7200RPM Seagate Barracuda 7200 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5"

Optical Drive : 22X LG Dual Layer DVD+/-RW Drive 2MB Cache - Bulk LightScribe Support

Case : XION AXP 100 Gaming Series, Power Supply : 500 watt Apex Allied 12v ATX Power Supply

Any thoughts? If it is the power supply, any suggestions for one that would meet my needs and fit in my case?

THANKS!

MSI says 500watt at least, put your old card back in and run it to see if the problem goes or stays.

Well I put the old graphics card in and now I am having the same problem, so its not the graphics card. I had to move the HDD when I installed the New GPU , but other than that, didnt do anything else. Any thoughts to what could be causing this? Everything worked fine prior to all this.

Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be?

Also, the computer will boot the OS the first time around and I can even open folders and stuff before it shuts down. If I power it on again right after it shuts down it usually does not make it to boot the OS. It is kind of like its a battery charges, then runs out and needs to be charged again.

I'd be looking for a PSU to test with, the APex isn't all that good, and not sure of exact model, but often dual rail, a decent single rail 500 with about 30 AMPs or better would prob solve the problem...see if you have or can borrow a different to try with
