The noise it makes is very similar to when the DVD tray is opened, and has been happening for the past 2 weeks. Just today, it suddenly shut down. I turned it on, but it showed only 'Asus' and the loading circle of dots. It will never boot up the log in screen. I opened up the laptop check the insides, but I only found a few loose screws.

Describe this sound more? If it's rattling, and you have a Hard Drive, it most likely would be your HDD head scraping the disk, causing a failing/failed hard drive. In that case, you'd need a full reinstall of everything....

Ok, yeah, i'm gonna have to say it's a hard drive failure. No other sound would make that then never boot afterwards. You could have bumped the laptop a little too hard or just an unlucky drive. I'd say replace it.
