I am looking into these table tops for a desk:

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00251135/#/00251338

With these legs:

Now, I wanted to buy the 200cm tabletop with 4 legs, but the shipping is $99, and I don't feel like spending that much on shipping.

My other option would be to buy two 100cm table tops and put them together, but I don't want any legs in the middle so I can roam the desk freely.

I just need to know if I can leave off the middle front legs and use a flat panel of metal with screw holes in it that will let me drill it into the bottom of the tables to connect them. I'm not sure what the peice of metal is called, but it's similar to this: http://www.howdididoit.com/Fort/miterBrace.jpg

Will that support the front? I'm pretty sure that either one of them will stand with 3 legs on its own, so I think it would work, but I am not positive.

P.S.

I don't plan to have anything too heavy in the middle, and I will order two extra legs just in case this doesn't work.

Hmm i don't like this idea of joining tabletops together ,I dunno if you are confident in building this then you can try it but otherwise i would suggest go for the 200cm tabletop. Also the first 2 links aren't working right now so i couldn't really see the specs.

Idk why the links won't work. Here they are again:

and the legs:

But regardless, there is no way I'm going to spend $100 on shipping. I can live with 2 legs in the middle of the table with the two 100cm tables.

But, I have scene the table support itself with only 3 legs. In theory, shouldn't the added support of the table next to it, combined with the metal support underneath it, work just as well as the 200cm table? The only difference of the 200cm table, is that is joins by wood in the middle. Personally, I think two 100cm tables with no front legs (and the brace) would be able to hold even more than the 200cm table, since it has 2 legs in the middle (back middle) instead of 1.

Check out the links and lemme know what you think.

Btw, do you have any experience in woodworking? Do you know what brace I'm looking for?

Hmm now yes the links are working now.I hardly have any practical experience of woodworking and the brace which you have shown may not work according to your liking but yes 2 legs in the middle along with side legs should be all right.Since you really aren't going to spend those 100$ bucks i say go for those 2 100 cm table tops ,considering that its most likely going to work.Best of luck.

Thanks for the help. The legs are only 3.50 a piece, so I'll just get all 8 legs, just incase.
