I decided to upgrade my PC but i'm on a bit of a budget so I decided to buy mostly new parts for my PC, The only things I kept are my RAM, HDD(Put a fresh install of Windows 7 x64 on it after putting it all together), the peripherals, and CPU fan. Everything else is brand new. I used PCPart picker to pick everything out, and it was all compatible, I double checked everything as well. First time I tried to start up, with my monitors plugged into the GPU, they would just stay blank, but I could here windows starting with my speakers. I plugged my monitors into my motherboards on-board display, and they worked fine. I tried to install the drivers for everything. When I tried installing the drivers for both my GPU and wireless card, they told me that I needed to install the devices, which were already in the computer. I checked the device manager, and neither of them show up, but in my display adapters it shows that there is a device currently working(I assume this is just the on-board display.) Here is my current setup:

  • Motherboard: MSI A88XM-E45
  • CPU: AMD A10 6800K Quad-Core Processor
  • GPU: ASUS HD7770-2GD5
  • Wireless Card: TP-Link N900 Wireless Dual Band PCI Express Adapter
  • PSU: Seasonic G-550W
  • RAM: Cosair Vengeance 8GB DDR3

  • Any help would be greatly appreciated, I've been Googling things for hours trying to figure it out to no avail, if any more info is need I will gladly oblige. Thanks!

I would play around with the monitor buttons, and make sure it is searching and looking at the right input. this is often a simple thing that people miss. If this is a no-go then try the below -

Does the wireless card work in the Small X1 slot?

Also try the card in the very bottom blue slot, though it is not going to be as good as the other slot this is just a test to see if the card even works.

Also - Does the card produce heat on startup?

I was really hoping, but no go.

I tried the card in both slots, and neither of them seemed to work, the led never lit up and it never showed up in the device manager.

At startup I didn't feel any king of heat, and after letting it run a couple of minutes, I still didn't really feel any noticeable heat, although the air coming from the fans does feel like it might be warm, but I could just be imagining that.

It might also be good to note that, when I plugged the GPU into the motherboard a red LED worked, telling me that I didn't plug it into the PSU, saying that it did still kind of work without being plugged into the PSU.

I am pretty well concluding on a faulty motherboard, if the graphics card nor wifi card never appeared at all in device manager, it is defiantly a problem with the board.

May sound like a silly question, did you plug in the power connectors for the card? (some run off motherboard power, some don't. Yours needs external power)

Sadly yes I did plug in the connector, I wish I was just an idiot, thank you for your help, hopefully someone swoops in before I send the motherboard back to solve the problem.

If none of the slots work, then you are going to have nothing else to try. Sounds like the board was DOA.

I even tried to plug in my old graphics card to test it out, and sadly nothing. Do you know if, since I purchased it through Amazon, that I can contact them about returning it?

    Yes you can -

If not then do it through the manufacturer (MSI)

I just got the new motherboard, I'm about to put it back together again. My GPU covers my PCIE slot for my network card if I put it in the right spot. which one would you say is best to put in the "wrong" PCIE slot?

Put the graphics card in the top long blue slot

Put the network card in the bottom blue slot.
