I started getting this error message earlier this evening and I have no idea what it is or how to fix it! I downloaded DLLSuite and I'm almost positive that whatever that error is keeps freezing it up. I can't task manager, shutdown, login anything without this thing popping up. I have run multiple scans with my Avira Anti Virus, Advanced System Care Pro, ioBit Malware Fighter, Windows defender, and Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. They all come up clean as a whistle. Anyone know how to fix this?

ok I cannot find anything online that will help me fix this. I checked in the Win32 file and the SmartcardCredentialProvider file is there. I don't know what else to do.

Untick / delete its entry in startup. You've probably got malware or something

Won't that cause more problems if I don't have the file all together? If it's malware are all the above mentioned programs just a waste of space if they didn't detect it?

LogonUI.exe - Bad Image

C:\\Windows\system32\SmartcardCredentialProvider.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

I did I didn't see it in there either. I also tried using my Windows 7 disk to repair but it says it's not compatible with my version of windows.

Well I would uninstall driver booster.

Umm are there any random names in startup ending with exe?? Or strange names?

So right now you cant open task manager? Do regedit and run work? The firewall?

I can open task manager, but not before 2 of those error boxes pop up. I click ok and then it continues to the task manager. Regedit and run work as well as the firewall from what I can tell. The only times I've gotten that error are after hitting ctrl alt del, logging on, logging off, and everytime I run any game on Steam.

Yeah I have my laptop here same version. I tried copy and pasting the file and it won't let me, says "You need permission" even though I'm the admin. Tried it in Safe Mode too

Copy it to a flash drive try it in safe mode. Has to be 32 or 64 bit too whatever this one is

says the same thing "You need permission to move this item" Then my only option is try again which doesn't work and cancel

If I try to rename the old one before hand it says "You need permission from Trusted Installer"

Yeah they were both x64, and that worked! Took ownership swapped em out and tada! Haha thank you so much dude. I wish I could select everything that you said as best answer :)  not to mention that all 20 of the other forums I was on didn't have a solution, with my exact question going back to '09. Hopefully this thread will help someone else in the future. Thanks man.
