Hey folks,

I am going to build my pc equipped with a GTX 980, I cant decide which brand I should go for however;

There's Strix ASUS, there's the stock card and there's G1 Gigabyte.

Oh and this will be my system;

Mobo : Asus Rampage V Extreme x99
Cpu : i7 5820k
Cpu cooler : Corsair h100i
Ram : G-Skill 2666 15C 16(4x4) DDR4 Gb
GPU : GTX 980?
SSD : 850 512Gb Pro Samsung
HDD : 1 TB WD Black
PSU : XFX 850W Pro Black edition

Any suggestion if I should change anything would be nice too.

Solution
I would actually not waste your money on the GTX 980, just under double the cost of a GTX 970 but only a 10% improvement.

To get the best out of your rig get two Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming's. Your rig and power supply can handle that and will blow a GTX 980 out of the water.

Also - I would not buy such an expensive motherboard for that system, it is quite a waste considering you have a 5820k. The motherboard itself costs more then the CPU.

I would do this insteasd -

i7 5930k/i7 5820K (i7 5930k supports 3/4 graphics cards far better then i7 5820k if you even decide to, as it has 40 lanes of bandwidth compared to the 5820k's 28.)

Gigabyte X99 G1 Gaming (Great board, and compared to the Asus will do the same things.)

2 x Gigabyte...

They are all good. If you want to see for yourself which one's stack up better against the other against the same test environment then check out guru3d.com when you get a chance. Your setup looks very promising overall btw! :) Have fun! Personally I'd go for the best priced one with the best temps (lowest at 100% load) whichever that may be.

Apart from that, that'll be an insane rig!

It takes a while for the reviewers to get their samples sometimes. I know, but sometimes you have to decide to wait for that data or not.

interesting idea, but how future proof is 2 gtx 970 compared to a single 980 ? I dont wanna change my pc for at least 2 years.

hmm..2 Strix 970 could work then.

The only thing is, I've had couple of bad experiences with gigabyte so I am staying away, completely.

Any other MOBO ? is MSI x99 7 or sli plus worth looking into .. maybe I should ask this in Mobo section :p

that is perfectly fine to avoid the gigabyte, though I hope your bad experiences were with REV 1.0 models which were bad. REV 2.0 models and G1's are very good, I own a REV 2.0 Windforce 3X cooler and have nothing to fault.

Motherboards, No problem I am always over there also (if you need to just add in the motherboard tag at the top of thread). MSI Gaming 7 is great choice, and the brand usually comes under preference. When you install these cards, I would actually put them in the very top and the third slot, this gives them sufficient space between them which helps cooling for the top card.

well, I will be $200 cheaper with better performance. thanks a lot, is 850W XFX Pro black edition enough tho ?

and since I have never used SLI/Crossfire, do most application go well with it or...there are issues with sli

Yes, that power supply is perfectly fine for those cards. Most of the modern day games support it, and many others. If the range was poor, it wouldn't be done by many people and certainly not recommended. As far as issues go, with two cards it's not bad at all. When SLI is not supported, you'll only be 10% worse off then before, which is not often and not bad at all for what performance benefit you do get with SLI.
