Greetings,

Today I post a question often debated around forums - and I want to get to the bottom of it.

I currently wish to upgrade my CPU from an AMD Athlon II x4 635 to a high end AMD CPU. The two I have in mind, an seem to spring to the mind of most is to either get the Phenom x6 1100T or the Vishera FX8 8350.
My main purpose for this upgrade is for 3D rendering speeds, better game performance and a processor that doesn't bottleneck my 2 HD 6950's.

Any advice or help on this issue would be greatly appreciated,

I'd just get the FX-8350, it should be cheaper...the 1100t is just as good (I believe) but is VERY rare to find new, and IF you find it new...it's probably overpriced.

Thanks for the advice - I too noticed the price difference. It was dumb of me thinking more price, more power (don't quote me on that one though).

Oh yes, forgot to question you...will you be overclocking? Nonetheless, both the 1100t and FX-8350 can be overclocked quite a lot, you just need an decent aftermarket cooler. I'd recommend the Hyper 212 if going for a moderate overclock.

Thanks for the advice. I may be overclocking but not by a huge amount until I get a decent water-cooled setup. I currently have an Arctic cooler that has served me (very) well - so I'll be sticking with that one for a while.

The art of one-up-manship :p. Any way, obvious bottleneck is obvious in my case and I have the FX8 coming in the post this week.

I've only started messing with my freshly installed AMD Vishera 8350, just tried a minor oc at 4.47ghz per core, and scored 8.2 on the Windows 8 Performance Index, which is the same as an i7 3770k at 3.5ghz.

And the AMD cost a hell of a lot less.

My 570's managed 7.5 which is to be expected I guess, but waiting until the summer before I upgrade those.

it all depends on your motherboard really. do you plan on upgrading your motherboard? yes the 8350 is better and quite possibly cheaper, but your motherboard might not support it. even if it does, if you have an older chipset (760g for example) then it might not work well with the 8350.
