Hi all,

I have the XFX 7870 Radeon DD 2gb. And Intel i5 4670k. 600 watts with 8gb ddr3 ram.

Prior to the update I was able to play Shadow of mordor on Ultra (did not download the optional HD textures at the time by the way) and I was experiencing around 40-50 fps most of the time. After I the installed 14.9 driver, it was dipping down to 30 fps and in the areas where lots of textures need to be loaded it even goes down to 20 fps.

When I lowered the settings even down to Medium, which apparently is the recommended settings for my 2gb card, the FPS was still horribly low, around 20.

I'm not sure what my driver was before the 14.9 but I have since uninstalled it and now using the 14.4 driver. Which I think is the standard one right? From what i understand the 14.9 driver is still in beta form and thus could have problems which might explain this. But I could be mistaken.

After installing the 14.4 driver, i can now play on the Very High preset with 40-50fps. But for some reason I do not get the same result with Ultra anymore. Which is unusual as it did happen at the beginning before all this malarkey .

Anyone else have the same issues, or does anyone have any ideas/questions?

14.7 was the beta driver. 14.9 is now the final release of that beta. I'm not sure as to why this has happened to you. The update is fairly new so we don't know yet. When I updated to 14.9 from 14.7 beta, I didn't see any changes in any of my games. I've got R9 280x in crossfire by the way. We'll see about future reports though.

I hear AMD is usually bad about driver updates so maybe that's why this is happening to you.

Tried out the 14.9 few days earlier. Performance of most benchmarks which I ran went down 2-5% average , using r9 280 by the way. Worst still made my cpu overclock unstable and had to adjust my vcore higher, don't know how it can managed to do that lol. Rolled back to 14.7RC3 , its working fine now thank god.

What the heck? That's weird.

Maybe on how you uninstalled the drivers?

I used DDU and safe mode to uninstall everything that had to do with AMD and reinstalled the 14.9 drivers and didn't find any changes. So I just stayed on it.

I think i did the uninstallation fine, showed up as default vga device upon pc restart after i uninstall the previous drivers.
After rolling back to 14.7rc3, ran back the previous benchmarks and yes all of them show some gains in performance over 14.9. Maybe this 14.9 is mainly for r9 290 /290x users lol

I'm not sure why i'm not showing any changes at all.

I've got R9 280x in crossfire setup. This is truly weird.
