Hello guys & girls,

I have recently purchased this neat looking budget case, Fractal Design Core 2500. It's fairly new case and I think not too many people have it. The specs say that Hyper 212 Evo's height is 159 mm where Core 2500 supports heatsinks "circa 162 mm" in height. So there's a difference of 3 mm.

If anyone of you owns these two, can you confirm me that the heatsink is going to fit the case?

Thank you very much!

Well, it'd be close, but fractal is usually accurate in it's specifications, so yes it should fit. Btw, there are some lower profile yet good cooling options available, only if I knew your CPU.

Thanks for your reply!

Yeah, after reading quite a number of case reviews I've come to conclusion that Fractal Design is one of the most reliable case manufacturers.

About the CPU... I haven't fully decided my build, I am balancing whether I should go with Intel or AMD. From AMD maybe FX-6300 or FX-8320 and on Intel side perhaps i5-4690K or i7-4790K. Going with Intel pushes build's total cost up at least 200€ but they're more powerful than FX line.

One of these CPUs will be in my build but I have to decide carefully which one go for.

It depends a lot on what are your needs. If gaming is the requirement, 4690k is unbeatable, i7 is of little use over i5 for this purpose and you'd need to OC FX 8 in order for it to compete with i5 (on stock). Leave the FX 6, its on par with i3. I'd get Intel right now, AM3+ platform is almost dead. Even non-K i5's would be fine for any GPU right now while being less power consuming and still better than FX 8 for gaming, would not require a hi-fi MoBo as they can't OC and would not be too heavy on pocket too :)

Ok, thanks. This detailed answer was really helpful. Maybe I'll get an i5 then :)

I am trying to find as fast and as multitasking-proof as possible with as little money as possible. Since I am a programmer first and a gamer second, would you still recommend an i5, say, i5-4690 or 4670 or even cheaper one?

Programming is not that CPU intensive (vs rendering or other more intensive tasks), quite fine for an i5, either the K or non-K would do fine, unless you're compiling some really serious stuff. There, the OCability won't make much difference, the HTs of Xeons or i7s will. You'd probably know that you need an i7 or Xeon if you were on that level of programming.

I'd get 44xx for value/money or any other non-K i5 for saving on the MoBo and an af cooler (locked CPUs don't need af cooler).

OK, thanks pal. I forgot the HyperThreading fact with Intel i7.

The fact is, my "working" machine has been an 7-year-old laptop for a couple of years now. Intel Celeron single core, 1 GB RAM. I was able to do some of my thesis (which was an Android app) with it, but it was extremely painful. So I know you'll understand I'm taking a BIG leap in when it comes to upgrading :D  I am going to do some web development, some mobile development and I am definitely starting game programming more seriously. I think the HT capability will pay off in the long run.

If you won't like to put your hands on OCing, you can get away with a Xeon for $70 less, more or less the same performance, plus added the savings by not getting an af cooler and an expensive MoBo, definately worth a thought :)

Alright, thank you very much :D  You have been extremely helpful, and those Xeons are less expensive than i7s. I have kind of underlooked those Xeons but I don't know why... Well, at least now I know they are an option, too :)
