1 stick of 8gb ram on a 8gb limited motherboard ?

Hello guys
A friend of mine has p5g41t-m lx which is limited to 8gb ram with 2 slots,so if he puts one stick of 8gb ram will it work properly??And is there a diference between 2x4gb and 1x8gb?

It'll work but 2 x 4gb works faster.

If 8GB is the max, then generally it's only accomplished with a 2x4GB set, as for the max it expects both channels to be populated. There have been a few mobosthat have BIOS updates to allow for for 8GB sticks, not positive about this one - would suggest 2x4GB to be safe

Thanks dude i guess i have to return the stick and get two now.(It really doesnt work just black screen)

Sorry to be bearer of bad news, this happens a lot, many people tend to think you can stick most any DRAM in a mobo, and things are getting worse with the newer sticks out and compatibility issues
