Hello every one, I currently have 8gb ddr3 1866 and i also have 4gb ddr3 1600 which is currently installed in my pc. I haven't tried yet to put the both ram in work because Im afraid to lose any of my ram. Is it possible to downclock my 1866 to 1600 to run them just like the same without any issues?
This is my mobos specs in ram:
2 x DIMM, Max. 16GB, DDR3 2200(O.C.)/2133(O.C.)/2000(O.C.)/1866(O.C.)/1600/1333/1066 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory Dual Channel Memory Architecture

Hi and welcome to Tom's forum.

As soon as you install the 4GB DDR3 1600 RAM, the current 8GB DDR3 1866 will set to run at same 1600MHz speed. That process is automatically done by your motherboard.

Does the voltage could be considered as a risk factor? Bc the 8gb ram has more voltage than the 4gb ram. Thank you very much for the quick response.

It's not, motherboard select the best voltage for those kits. I would guess that your mobo will set the kits at 1.65V, almost all DDR3 RAM kits run at that voltage

Okay, thank you. Im finally getting calmed down for Im nervous that my 4gb ram would be useless. But what does 1866(O.C.) means in the ram's motherboard spec?

That basically means that 1866MHz speed is only supported using Overclock, in other terms, you need to set X.M.P if you are using Intel or set the settings for your RAM manually if you are using AMD.

Ahh okay, in short I will just install the ram then let the motherboard fix it? Bc as you said earlier the 1866 will work as 1600 automatically. Or no?

Correct, just install the RAM. Motherboard will do the rest.

Thanks , it works. But I think the startup memory increase even if I just started up my pc, from 1.8 to 2 gb of ram is used even if in idle.

So, you don't see all the RAM usable?
