Hi guys, I'm building my own gaming PC with a $1500 budget. Below are the items I am thinking of buying, please let me know what you think! I need a smaller computer for easy transport, so I decided to go with some Micro ATX items. I am a complete noob when it comes to computers and this will be my first build.

1. Processor: Intel i7 4790K ($309 Amazon)
http://www.amazon.com/Intel-i7-4790K-Processor-Cache-BX80646I74790K/dp/B00KPRWAX8

2. Motherboard: H-97M Plus Micro ATX ($127 Amazon)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132130

3. Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black Series 8 GB 240 Pin DDR 3 1600 MHz ($76.99 Amazon)
http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-HyperX-FURY-1600MHz-DDR3/dp/B00J8E9334

4. SSD: Crucial MX100 512 GB ($210 Amazon)
http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-MX100-adapter-Internal-CT512MX100SSD1/dp/B00KFAGCUM

5. Case: Corsair Obsidian Series 350D Performance Micro ATX ($109.99 Amazon)
http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Obsidian-Performance-Computer-CC-9011029-WW/dp/B00BWLL9MY

6. Power Supply: CORSAIR CX series CX750 750W ($79.99 Newegg)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139040

7. Optical Drive: LG 24 x DVD Burner ($20 Amazon)
http://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-Super-Multi-Internal-GH24NS95B/dp/B009F1DYF8

8. Operating System: Windows 8.1 ($100)

9. Keyboard: LED Illuminated Ergonomic USB Multimedia Backlight Gaming Keyboard ($26.99 Amazon)
http://www.amazon.com/Illuminated-Ergonomic-Multimedia-Backlight-Keyboard/dp/B00FWK8UWI/ref=zg_bs_402051011_1

10. Video Card: GTX 970 ($349.99 Amazon)
http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Superclocked-256bit-Graphics-04G-P4-1972-KR/dp/B00NI45AUU

11. Monitor: ASUS VE248H-CSM 24" ($199 Newegg)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236102

As far as the monitor goes, I have a couple of extra 50" flat screens in my house. can I use one of these instead of a monitor?

I appreciate your feedback guys. Thanks!

This all together looks like a great build but spending all that extra cash on a SSD seems a bit overkill for just gaming, for what you'd be paying you won't get much of a performance boost if one at all. Getting a smaller SSD that would be 64GB or 128GB to install your OS to and other programs you wanted to take advantage of the speed, then just buy a 1TB HDD to put all your games on would make more sense. Depending on how many games you have they can take up a chunk of your storage. I have like 25-30 games installed on my HDD and it takes up close too 500GB....

Couple of things to note -

1) I would recommend getting an aftermarket CPU cooler if you are overclocking. I recommend the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. Does the job and keeps your CPU frosty.

2) I don't recommend that power supply, not only because it's non-modular (meaning all cables are fixed and more clutter in your case), but it's also not a great unit. It uses cheap capacitors. Try this one -

Seasonic M12-II EVO 620w - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

This unit is of far better quality and is fully modular, meaning you need to plug in the cables, but only the ones you need, thus keeping cables mess at a minimum and increasing airflow.

3) I would buy a storage drive along with that SSD. A 2TB Hard drive will be good for a backup drive.
