Hi guys, I need some help diagnosing my PC. It's an Alienware Aurora. It won't successfully boot anymore. It was working fine a couple days ago and I haven't made any hardware changes recently. I usually leave my computer on all the time and today I came back to find it unexpectantly off. I turned it on and this is what happens:
1. Fans go crazy and stay on
2. It eventually got to the "Windows did not shut down properly" screen
3. I chose "Start normally" (fans still going crazy)
4. It tries to load, takes awhile, then says it can't boot with a screen for "repair startup util"
5. I chose repair, it showed a progress bar for a second that doesn't get far, then just shut off

At a few moments the fan did cool down, but just for a second or two, then ramped back up to max.

What could be the problem? What should I do next to diagnose?

Thanks!!

It sounds like an overheating issue at first, but when you say fan goes loud, do you know which fan?

I would check the GPU fan 1st ,and CPU fan 2nd. You should find out the problem after that.
Most likely it will the GPU, this might be due to power supply shortage, or GPU dying. Try change a difference PSU see if it helps, or change a GPU to a low profile one that uses no extra 6pin power.

Thanks for your reply.

It's a bit hard for me to tell but I think it's the CPU fan. I've found that after waiting a while, I can boot up and log in, and the fans get louder and louder until it shuts off. So this is definitely an over-heating issue?

So, that means it could be the CPU fan or the PSU, right? Anything further I should look into before I buy a new CPU fan or PSU and see if it fixes the problem?

Seems that some people have had issues with the Alienware Aurora Liquid Cooled CPU Fan getting gunked up. My PC is 4 years old. Maybe I can clean out the CPU unit myself...
