Hello my fellow tom'shardware members..

Recently this issue is constantly budging me.I bought a wd green hdd which died within warranty period( 8 months).I rma'ed it and got a brand new replacement HDD..It looked like brand new(sealed in antistatic wrap) visually.I ran some standard diagnostic tests via HDD tune and HD sentinel and i was amazed to find that the power on hours count was 740 days :o

Hd start stop count is low aswell :p

I am posting the diagnostics so fellow storage experts can advise me whether to get this drive replaced or current one will suffice..depending on the data

S.M.A.R.T data

Depending on fellow members advice i will keep using this 1 or ask for another replacement..One more thing to add that the drive manufacturing date is may 2009 which by current standards seems to be an old drive.

I've heard that they send out refurbished HDDs for RMA replacement. This might be what happened. I do not trust any refurbished HDDs.

Get yourself a new HDD for your valuable data. WD or Seagate.

Hi there devilskreed,

All WD's re-certified drives go through extensive testing before they are re-sent out as replacements. Though, the S.M.A.R.T test shows some reallocated sectors. I would advise you to test the drive with WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostics and see whether it will show different results.
If you get similar results I would advise you to contact the WD's Tech Support and ask them about that. You can do so whether by e-mail or by phone.
