My husband set up a Netgear router to hook his computer and mine to the internet. My 2 sons and I all have the same Android tablets and we could hook all of them up to the internet through the router. Recently, he unplugged the wifi from my computer since I'm getting a new one, but in the meantime neither myself or my 2 sons can get back on to the internet, even though the home computer is still connected. I have taken my tablet, gone into settings, forgotten our home netgear address, shut off the home computer, my tablet and our router, restarted both devices, turned the router back on, had the home computer connect to the internet, and retried to connect to the internet from my tablet, none of our tablets reconnect. What am I doing wrong? I am not tech savvy, but have been trying to connect my tablet for days now.

Is the router connected to your modem from your ISP?

Sounds like either he was trying to use the computer u turned off as a bridge between the modem and the router, or he used a bad configuration on the router and it is expceting dhcp or dns from the now turned off computer (dhcp provides an ip address, and dns is bassically a directory of those addresses).

When you say he disconnected the WiFi from the computer, do you mean he hit dissconnect from the wifi network on the bottom right, or he unpluged the ethernet cable?

I believe the computer that he uses is the initial one that he connected to the internet. He used an ethernet cable to connect my computer to the router and he just unplugged the cord from my computer to the router.

Ok, that is fine.
The model is not as significant as knowing if it is a modem/router combo or a router only.
Modem/router will have a coax cable plugged into it as well as the ethernet ports.
Router only will be ethernet only and the ethernet port from the WAN port on the router should be hooked up to Modem:

--(Coax Cable)-->MODEM--(Ethernet Cable)-->ROUTER--(Ethernet Cable)-->PCs.

From what you are describing it almost sounds like a PC is hooked up between the modem and router

It sounds like he just turned off the wireless function of the router?

You'd have to connect to the router on your home computer (the one that can connect to it) and set up back up.

You may need to do a reset of the router, you can find instructions in the user manual or online.

Don't let Charter try to charge you to fix this, or send out a tech. It's not too difficult to do :)

PS why isn't your husband fixing this, since he broke it? :)

Our internet provider is Charter.
Our model number is WNR 1000
I have since shut down the computer, shut off the router, turned back on the computer and turned back on the router.
I have also turned on my tablet and in the settings screen, it tells me to make sure the router light is on. It is on. It also tells me to hit the router button but when I do that, on the settings list for the WI-FI locations on my tablet, it only adds another line for NTGR (which is our WI-FI name). I have even canceled out all of the NTGR listings and started from scratch.
Still no WI-FI. I don't know if the WI-FI is actually broke or not, since the tablets started not connecting to the internet when my husband disconnected the other computer. All he did was unplug the Ethernet cable which may still be attached the home computer.
