can I use a gigabit switch

Hi I have a new sky router in the hall where the wireless signal is best for all areas, but in another room I have a tv, amplifier and sonos connect amp that wants to be hard wired to the router is it possible to leave the router where it is in the hall and use a cat 5 cable from it to a gigabit switch in the living room for all the other devices?? please help I am obviously new to all this networking malarky??: )

Yes. A simple 5 port unmanaged gigabit switch will take care of all. Something like this should do.
