I'm wondering if there is any benefit to upgrading my desktop and router to something like a Netgear Nighthawk AC1900? I use my desktop mainly for online FPS games. I also have a variety media devices (i.e. smart-tv, Roku, tablets smartphone)

If i only have 25 mb/s from my ISP will this router help at all? Will it help with devices that are wireless N instead of wireless AC?

All things being equal, it will not help your internet speed, if you are actually getting the full speed via wireless.

If all you have is "N" devices, adding an "AC" router will not make any change.

This SmallNetBuilder.com article shows that an AC router can improve throughput of N devices. I was surprised.

Interesting.
WiFi is such a fickle beast though. A particular router that works well in your house with your devices may not do that in my house.
