Connecting two routers?

So right now I have 1 router and 1 modem with the standard hookup. The problem is it is in my room (most tech savvy in household) I have a linksys router and the wifi isn't to great for my living room and my parents room. I was wondering if I could buy another router and connect that router via ethernet to the router that is already hooked up to the modem to give that side of the house better wifi signal. In my head it doesn't sound that crazy or something that wouldn't be possible just thought I would check before buying a new router and not having it work.

You'll just need to configure the new router to operate as an access point (routing disabled). Some routers have an AP function built-in. On other routers, you would just need to connect an Ethernet cable to a LAN port on the router (not WAN or Internet) and disable LAN DHCP.

Essentially, using a second router to extend wireless coverage is common and you shouldn't have any problems getting this to work.
