Hello i want to upgrade my system for my b-day but am unsure on what to upgrade first and am curious what would give me the biggest performance boost.
My current specs are:
Fx6300 @ 3.8ghz
Msi 7870 Ghz edition
8gb visiontek black label 1600 mhz ram
Asus M5a97 le re 2.0 mobo
Antec 750watt bronze certified psu

games i play: Dayz-Arma3-CS:GO-BF4-RUST-WOW also gtav in the future.

Now what my first upgrade path im think of is going with a 4670k with a ASRock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer LGA 1150 and that will come to about 359.99 on newegg.

My second option is going with a newly released gtx 970 4gb card for around 329.99-359.99

Please help me. Thanks.

You play games that are CPU heavy. I would get an i5 4460 and an h97 motherboard. This will save money for the GPU upgrade later on.

1. Will you overclock the fx6300? EDIT I mean more than 3.8ghz
2. Will you use it for anything other than gaming?
3. What monitor resolution and refresh rate do you use?
4. If you upgrade the cpu and motherboard how long until you can upgrade the gpu?

Thanks :)

Hey to answer your questions,
1.im not planning on over clocking the cpu more than 3.8ghz due to not having a proper mobo and aftermarket cooler.
2.this is primarily for gaming, some school work on the side.
3. I use 1280 x1024 at 60hrz
4.if I upgraded the mobo and cpu I would be able to upgrade the gpu by Christmas. (December)
Thanks get back to me.

At that low of a resolution, your CPU is really holding you back. An i5 4460 and an h97 board would do wonders for DayZ and Arma at that resolution.

In the future what if i upgrade to a 1080p monitor, would it still be the same story?

Yes the i5 will still be much better than the 6300 in those specific games.

I agree, upgrade the cpu now, it will make the biggest difference at your current resolution

An i5 4460 or 4590 with h97 board are good choices if you aren't going to OC
