I run Everest by Lavalys and give me this product key for Windows 8.1 under Operating System > Licence information > Product key:
Product Key ****

Another similar software: HWinfo, gave me this same one.

I was surprised to see both Produkey and Magic Jellybean give me a different one:
CD Key: *****
Jellybean lists it as CD Key
Produkey calls it Product Key

What's the real one :??:

Was this a preinstalled OS, or something you bought and installed?

I really don't know, this is a friend's pc and has no Windows key labels. She's abroad now.

This makes the case of retail windows and retaining the disk and product key.
I have an OEM win7 disk and even that will have to be upgraded to a retail version when I can afford a couple of new HDD's.
Also, buying a computer with a pre-installed windows, and not asking for, and getting, the windows disk is dum-ass.
